U.S. technology research to develop polyethylene pipe

American National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed a enhanced chemical microscopy, can be mixed polymer interactions between individual molecules within the display from the detail. The technology is expected to play a role in estimating the life cycle of polyethylene pipes and fittings.
Although the estimated useful life of polyethylene pipes up to 100 years, but existing tests can not accurately predict the service life under field conditions, especially for melting joints. Pipes mainly high density and linear low density polyethylene blend.
Materials scientists Young Jong Lee said that this combination increases the rigidity of the polymer, the strength and fracture resistance, but as of now, we still can not accurately know the exact mechanism of this interaction.
